Culhwch and Olwen

The story of Culhwch and Olwen, first committed to paper around 1100 A.D., is one of the oldest writings of King Arthur and his knights. Prior to being written down, the story had a long oral tradition. This audio version of Culhwch and Olwen was designed to bring the story to modern audiences much as it was originally intended. This quirky tales tells us just how difficult it was to get a good haircut in sixth century Britain.

"Culhwch and Olwen, based on The Mabinogion, shows the sixth century Welsh bard's love of exaggeration and repetition. There is also a certain amount of silliness that will delight modern audiences, at least the way David presents it...Abetting the long oral tradition is the Celtic styling of musicians Kevin Schramm and Nancy McCallion...The spirited music embodies that final hunt, and then the happy nuptials of Culhwch and his bride. David's musical lilt is wonderfully engaging, almost mesmerizing." A.M. Stickel, Deep Magic.
